Fluid retention: The main reason is the fluid retention that is common in pregnancy. However the shape of a woman's foot does change with the added weight of pregnancy and the changes in her back.

Hormonal Changes: The ligaments in your feet respond to the same hormones that help the ligaments in the pelvis loosen for birth. The feet will often get a little wider and bigger. This often remains. Your feet will also swell due to extra weight. The swelling will go away.
