Joint swelling/pain: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder which affects the synovial tissues in the body. The inflammed and hypertrophied synovial tissue causes destruction of joints and tendons. Most treatment is medical now, see a board certified rheumatogist for evaluation and treatment. Long term joint and tendon issues can be addressed by an orthopedic surgeon.
