A member asked:

Is there a relationship between metal implants and lymphedema?

Yes: A metal implant requires an incision. Any incision could disrupt lymphatic chains and also produce infection, these two factors commonly produce lymphedema.

No: Any lymphedema seen post implant is almost always is due to the surgical technique used to place the implant.

Secondary relations: Lymphedema occurs when there's compromise of the lymphatic circulation. This third circulation (arteries, veins) carries things too thick to be safely carried in arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells/digested food. It is propelled along by normal body movements but contains a thick material called lymph. Blockage from surgery can cause back up but unlikely the implant itself.
