Sounds like trauma: A pool of blood under the skin is usually due to a bump with bleeding. This is usually not serious unless there was no trauma to the area. If not, it could mean that she is not clotting normally and should be seen by a physician. If it was traumatic and asymptomatic, it should slowly resolve on its own but that can take weeks to months depending upon how it's size.

Ecchymosis: Your mom likely had senile purpura or easy bruising ... Usually affect area from elbow to wrist may be made worse by Aspirin or other blood thinners ... Annoying not dangerous ... See the doctor routinely.
