Not necessarily: The lumbar spine normally has 5 vertebrae. A sacralized L5 means that the transverse processes, normally separate from the sacrum, have become fused to the sacral ala. This process can also be partially complete, resulting in a transitional vertebra that is not completely fused. This process, however, is not associated with an increased or decreased lordosis.
