Underarm: It is generally recommended to apply this to the underarm. It absorbs fine there and it is less likely to get on anyone else (such as wife/girlfriend, daughter, etc). If you have any questions about how and where to apply, the doc who prescribed it should be able to help. Shoulders also.

Shoulder / Upper arm: The package insert is very clear that AndroGel should be applied only to the shoulder and upper arm. (there is no mention of underarm.) here is a link to the package insert: http://www.Rxabbott.Com/pdf/androgel1_62_pi.Pdf.
