Dr. Kim Fagan answered

Varies: Osgood schlatter refers to an irritation of the tibial tubercle apophysis, a growth plate on the upper shin where the patella (kneecap) tendon inserts. It is typically seen in adolescents/ boys> girls. Subsceptibility remains until the growth plate is completely fused. Fusion typically occurs by onset of menses in girls and by early teens in guys. Tenderness/swelling typical symptoms.
