Many possible causes: Narrowing or contracture of the bladder neck is usually a side effect of surgery or radiation for conditions such as prostate cancer. Primary bladder neck obstruction is not well understood, but may be caused by fibrotic scarring or neurologic dysfunction leading to altered muscle tone. Medications called alpha-blockers are the primary treatment, & several studies have shown symptom improvement.
