Local care issue: Shingles differs from chickenpox by not having a phase when oral secretions contain viral particles. The contagious material is limited to the wet or dry debris coming from the area involved. As long as the kid has no direct contact with that material she is at no risk. At three she should have had the vaccine already & if so it is unlikely that she could get sick from it anyway.

Depends: Shingles is very contagious and unvaccinated individuals should avoid contact until skin lesions are resolved. Your 3 year old should have been vaccinated and if so, they are at minimal risk of infection.

It depends: The shingles or herpes zoster virus(hzv) contagious period lasts anywhere from day 3 to day 14 of the infection cycle. The best protection to the individuals who never had chicken pox or vaccination against hzv should avoid to be near an individual who has active blisters. If your 3 years old did not have chicken pox or vaccination to hzv then your child should stay away.
