"All Dr's"?: Writing prescriptions does not entitle any physician to "drug company kick back." however, some antidepressants have been shown to decrease menopausal hot flashes & other symptoms. When indicated, some physicians may offer them as potentially helpful treatment options. I am a physician, and I do not "push antidepressants" on anyone. I know many colleagues who fall outside your statement also.

Treats more than dep: I'm sorry if you've gotten the impression that "all doctors" push anything. Some of us stop more meds than we start. But ssri antidepressants treat more than depression. Fluoxetine (prozac) is fda approved for pms symptoms, and ssris are used pretty often for this. Some perimenopause symptoms can be helped too, but no one should take such meds unless they are comfortable with the pros & cons.

Individual: Everyone experiences menopause differently. For women for whom depression and or anxiety are major components, antidepressants can be helpful, even life saving. Menopause management starts with a health diet and a good exercise regimen. Sleeping problems, which i see you have, have be a major problem of menopause, impairing mood and function. Speak with a good specialist who listens to you.
