Grade 2 Tear: A grade 2 meniscal tear is only noticed on an MRI and general shows intra-meniscal changes without penetration to the surface. There are 2 types: globular and linear. Nearly always asymptomatic. If your MRI indicates a grade 1 or 2 tear, but your symptoms and physical exam are inconsistent with a tear, surgery may not be needed.
