A member asked:

Good morning dr, can bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) cause leukopenia if used very often?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Allergy to the sulfonamide contained in Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) can certainly produce leukopenia and the frequency of administration will not be associated. Stop taking Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and see your doctor to make sure no other cause for the low WBC counts.
