Pain in the neck: Arthritis, disc diseases/joint diseases, strained muscles/tendons etc..Can cause pain--muscle spasm often makes a 'stiff" neck and at times can be quite painful. If you have radiating pain to arms etc..Likely a pinched nerve. Since u gave limited info, it is hard to tell. Because your pain is severe, i advise getting it checked out before specific therapy/exercise can be given. Good luck.
