Not long at all: Eye drops rapidly absorb into the eye, usually in seconds or minutes. A person can help eye drops to work by closing the eyes for a couple of minutes after placement, and wiping away any excess. This is in reference to pharmaceutical eye medications, like glaucoma drops. Some eye drops, certain antibiotics for example, intentionally are made not to absorb because they work externally.

3-5 minutes: About 92% absorption in 3 minutes and up to 98% in 5 minutes. For medicine drops, it's recommended to close the eyelids and let it soak in for 3-5 minutes to get the maximum effect.
