Exam.: A pelvic exam includes a pap smear, and palpation of the uterus and ovaries. A blood test can look for anemia, pregnancy, or problems with clotting or hormones. An ultrasound will give more details on the size and shape of the uterus and ovaries. A sonohysterography (us with fluid injection) shows abnormalities of the uterine cavity. An endometrial biopsy samples cells from the uterine lining.

Testing: For people who have an abnormal bleeding tendency including very easy bruisability of the skin or frequent spontaneous development of bruises(petechiae, ecchymoses, purpura) there is a coagulopathy workup consisting of multiple tests included in a protocol. Frequently a hematologist is involved as a consultant.
