Some possibilities: Stringy saliva might be related to dehydration or side effects of certain medications. Consider these possibilities and see your own dentist for a thorough dental examination. This might also warrant an exam by your physician to rule out other medical possibilities.

Cinnemon: Flavored toothpaste can sometimes create this effect also. If you recently switched to this flavor of toothpaste, that may be the culprit.

Not unusual: Your mouth has many salivary glands. Some secrete primarily serous fluid -- clear and water like. Others secrete primarily mucous like fluid - what you just described. Others, a bit of both. You probably didn't notice before, or the ratio is changing for some reason. Possible your serous ones are producing less and you therefore see more mucous.
