Paronychia AKA: Infected ingrown toenail. Warm soaks in epsom salts may help inflammation, but ultimately needs to see doc/podiatrist for treatment, which may include antibiotics &/or removal of part of nail. Prevention: shoes that fit with adequate toebox & length (no pointy toes). Buy shoes late in day when feet are larger. Proper nail care.

Infected toe: Sounds like your husband's toe is indeed infected. With bleeding beside the nail, it might indicate an ingrown toenail. Please get it checked out by a podiatrist before it worsens.

Sounds like a: Pyogenic granuloma from an ingrown toenail. See a podiatrist for quick repair of the problem.
