It depends: There are a number of different types of hair loss, from alopecia areata, to telogen effluvium, to scarring conditions like discoid lupus and lichen planopilaris, and it can be local or generalized. A dermatologist will help you get the correct diagnosis and find a treatment plan to get you back on track. Most of the time hair loss is reversible, especially if caught early.
