Liver enzymes: Sgpt/sgot (ast/alt) are liver enzymes which become elevated when liver cells are damaged. Non trending elevations up to about 3 times upper limit of normal - are fairly nonspecific. Above that level there is most certainly something amiss with the liver which needs focussed investigation extremely high levels - in the thousands - are generally associated with severe toxicity or viral hepatitis.
