How do the symptoms differ between just a regular cold and mono?

Mono more miserable: A regular cold, caused by one of over 100 strains of cold viruses, usually causes a couple days of mild fever, some runny nose & cough for a week, and a few days of aches & tiredness. Mono, from ebv virus, can seem like a cold at first, but symptoms last longer and can cause prolonged fatigue. Tonsils and neck glands (lymph nodes) get swollen. Symptoms not seen in colds can occur, such as rashes.

Mono vs uri: The symptoms initially could be alike. The cold lasts a short duration and mono symptoms linger for a varied period of time.

I recently got Mono. Before symptoms appeared I noticed a change to my menstrual cycle. Instead of a regular cycle I spotted dark brown for about 3 weeks instead of a regular one week. I started spotting dark brown again. Is this normal with mono?
