Play on words: Multiple personality disorder is the former name of what is now referred to as "dissociative identity disorder, " the presence of 2 or more distinct identities or personality states. If one is diagnosed with multiple "personality disorders, " (uncommon) one would meet criteria for more than one personality disorder, such as narcissistic personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder.
