Yes: Yes, infact it is a first line antibiotic for treating UTI without the availability of final urine culture.

Yes, still used: Has now largely been replaced as a first line antibiotic for utis. More commonly prescribed as Bactrim or septra, both are the same combination of sulfa with trimethoprim. @ other first line antibiotics most frequently prescribed by urologists are Macrodantin (nitrofurantoin), & Cipro (ciprofloxacin) in adults. Amoxicillin in children. Many primary care drs still prescribe sulfas as a furst line treatment 4 utis.
