Carbohydrates: Grains such as barley, rice, wheat and oats are higher in complex carbohydrates. If processed, and the fiber removed, they are not good selections for diabetics because they raise your blood sugar sooner and higher than their high fiber counterparts. Most plants and vegetables are lower in calories and high in fiber. They are good healthy overall choices and should be 1/4 of your plate at meals.
