ITB FrictionSyndrome: If pain is lateral over the hip, it is usually due to a tight iliotibial band rubbing on the prominent greater trochanter of the hip. This can lead to a more chronic bursitis that can be painful each time you run. Usually a good stretching program with appropriate strengthening is quite helpful and can lead to complete resolution of the condition. When it is painful, ice massage is helpful.

If its on the side: If its on the side its trochanteric bursitis. If its in the groin then its your hip joint. Get a check up from orthopaedic surgeon to get the diagnosis and get treated. May be real simple.
