After implantation: Pregnancy starts with embryo implantation. Clinical pregnancy/ 'knowing you're pregnant' starts with a pregnancy test, a missed period or pregnancy symptoms after implantation has already happened and the pregnancy is making enough HCG hormone to show up in your blood and urine. If you don't know your LMP or are irregular, ultrasound can estimate how far along you are, reported as weeks from lmp.
