Heat: When a stye starts or is developing, use soaks with a washcloth soak in very warm, but not hot, tap water at least 4-5 times per day for 4 minutes each time. This will commonly get rid of it but if not, then see your ophthalmologist for alternate treatments.

Treat early: Very warm compresses should be used topically for 2-4 minutes. Using the compresses a circular light massage with your fingers for 10-20 seconds will also be helpful. The compress should not be hot enough to irritate the skin.
