Yes both Okay: When treating cholesterol, statin drugs such as zocor (simvastatin) are very important in primarily treating total cholesterol, hdl, and ldl. Gemfibrozil will help more with triglycerides. Thus this combination, if needed, is a great opportunity to help reduce cardiovascular and stroke risk.

NOT TOGETHER: Do not use Simvastatin and Gemfibrozil together. Gemfibrozil increases the availability of simvastatin, and can when used together increase the risk of muscle related side effects. The fda has recently changed the labeling for these meds and does not recommend using them together. Used individually they can each be useful for different types of lipid disorders. Gemfibrozil can lower triglycerides.
