Floaters - problem?: Floaters occur when there are changes in the vitreous gel within the eye. They are harmless but may occur at the same time as retinal tears. The tears can lead to detachment of the retina and, if untreated, total loss of vision. That said, the floaters themselves are not the biggest problem or even serious. It is the tear.
