Anti inflammatory: Methylprednisolone (medrol) is a steroid. It's in the same family as Prednisone but is a bit more potent. Medrol (methylprednisolone) is used to treat a variety of acute and chronic inflammatory conditions such as asthma, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis. Medrol (methylprednisolone) like other steroids have many side effects especially if used long term. Common ones: weight gain, osteoporosis, diabetes, and infections.

An Anti-inflammatory: Methylprednisolone is a steroid. It is involved in many processes such as the metabolism of energy, fats, and proteins, and in electrolyte ("mineral") balance. It is an anti-inflammatory, which is usually why it is given. It is important to know that this form of steroid is not the same as that abused by athletes and will not improve athletic performance.

Steroid: It is a type of steroid - corticosteroid - as distinct for anabolic steroids. It is a potent anti-inflammatory medication, which has many side effects, but which can be very effective in some situations. The side effects must be considered versus the benefit.
