Older med: Gabapentin (neurontin) was introduced to handle nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia, post-herpetic neuralgia, but also used as an anti-epileptic drug, and, in psychiatry, for moon stabilization. Has been used for diabetic peripheral nerve pain. Limited by adverse drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, edema, and does not gain benefit beyond 3600 mg daily.
