Effexor (venlafaxine): Effexor (venlafaxine) is a selective serotonin norepinaphrine reuptake inhibitor (snri) used for major depressive d/o and various anxiety disorders. At higher doses it can increase blood pressure, so this needs monitoring. It has been associated with increased suicidal ideation, hostility, and agitation in clinical trials with children and adolescents.

Venlafaxine/Effexor: This is a brain-active drug most often used for anxiety & depression, though it also has shown benefit in neuropathic pain. It works-, as do almost all anti-anxiety/depression drugs- by blocking neurotransmitter reuptake, in this case norepinephrine & serotonin. Dose must be adjusted carefully, & blood pressure should be checked regularly for hypertension.
