Effexor (venlafaxine): Effexor (venlafaxine) is a selective serotonin norepinaphrine reuptake inhibitor (snri) used for major depressive d/o and various anxiety disorders. At higher doses it can increase blood pressure, so this needs monitoring. Venlafaxine/Effexor: This is a brain-active drug most often used for anxiety & depression, though it also has shown benefit in neuropathic pain. It works-, as do almost all anti-anxiety/depression drugs- by blocking neurotransmitter reuptake, in this case norepinephrine & serotonin. Dose must be adjusted carefully, & blood pressure should be checked regularly for hypertension.
