Similar to Vinegar: Really! the acidity (ph) of the vagina is near that of vinegar. The "good" bacteria, lactobacilli sp., create this and it prevents infections. Disturb them and things get unbalanced where yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis (bv) are more likely. Likewise if you feel inclined to douche, then a vinegar and water one is best for this reason.

Ph: The normal ph of a vagina of a reproductive aged female is acidic. Estrogen stimulates the vagina to be thick and moist and this fosters the growth of healthy lactobacilli which causes the ph to be acidic. Sometimes other bacteria grow which changes the ph to basic and causes an odor and irritation. Sometimes probiotics can be taken to support a healthy low ph.
