Hernia of vagina: Vaginal prolapse is a weakness, or herniation, of part or all of the vaginal wall. If it occurs in the front part, it is called a cystocoele, in the back part, a rectocoele. It most commonly starts after childbirth and can be influenced by such things as being overweight, a smoker, diabetic, lots of heavy lifting, or a hysterectomy.
