Carbs rich in fiber: When you eat carbs (like oatmeal), your body sends tryptophan (an amino acid) to the brain to trigger the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that makes you feel calm & better able to handle stress. Without carbs, your brain can't produce serotonin, which is why people on diets tend to get tense, irritable, & depressed. So eat carbs that are rich in fiber (like whole-wheat pasta or beans).
