Ask Gynecologist: There's a workup for dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Pelvic ultrasound can rule out fibroids (leading cause depending on age) but unless you had saline sonohysterogram (fancier ultrasound study) you may have a small polyp on the lining. You might have adenomyosis and a pelvic MRI would answer that. Maybe due to not ovulating every cycle. Too many reasons without knowing more info. See your doctor.

Dysfunctional bleed: It appears that you have dysfunctional bleeding based upon what you have said. Hormones can be tried. An endometrial ablation can be performed if you do not want more children. A hysterectomy is last resort.
