Ego identity: Identity crisis, according to psychological theorist, erik erikson, is the failure to achieve ego identity during adolescence. Erikson coined the term, and thought that if parents allow children to explore, they will form clear conclusions about their own identity. If, however, parents enforce too much conformity to their views, the teen will face identity confusion or an identity crisis.
