A doctor has provided 1 answer

Getting used to : Habituation occurs when the nerves become desensitized to a constant stimuli. You learn to tune out background noise or common sounds in your daily life. Unfortunately, habituation can occur with chemicals. Thus, for example, a coffee drinker may end up drinking more coffee to stay awake. The number of caffeine receptors increase in the presence of daily doses of caffeine via coffee.
