Trans =across/beyond: It is basically an ultrasound performed on the outside abdominal wall to see organs on the inside (as pictured here), thus seeing things across/beyond the abdominal wall. Have fun learning. Good luck.

External ultrasound: Transabdominal ultrasound is done with an external probe placed on the surface of the skin. Alternative approaches are transrectal or transvaginal.
