Preventing motion: Immobilization is the process of applying a splint, brace, or cast to prevent movement of a part of the body. This is done to help with the healing process, especially in areas where frequent movement would prevent healing (i.e. Bone fracture) immobilization can also be used to stabilize an area where the ligament is loose, and movement would cause injury (i.e. Knee or spine).
