Prednisone: Systemic corticosteroids (prednisone) form the basic therapy for dermatomyositis. Other medications can be added if the disease cannot be controlled on Prednisone alone. Both Methotrexate and azathioprine have been used in this situation. There are also some newer meds which are showing promise in the treatment of steroid resistent myositis.
