Plaque: Plaque in blood vessels breaks loose causing emboli (particles of plaque and blood clots) travelling down and they can clog up other small arteries causing stroke, leg ischemia or bowel ischemia depending on the location. Treatment is plaque removal or plaque stabilization by surgery or medications.
