A member asked:

Is there anything that can detect bone metastases besides a bone density scan?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Other modalities: Conventional x-rays, ct scans, pet scans and bone scans are the ways that we usually detect bone metastasis in cancer work ups. Bone density scans are not used for this purpose, but instead are used to document osteoporosis, and determine treatment to replace lost calcium in bones that can lead to benign fractures.
