Varies: Thrush can be associated with use of inhaled corticosteroids, such as those for treatment of asthma. It also is associated with conditions that cause immunosuppression, from uncontrolled diabetes to hiv/aids.

Other possibilities: One can also get it after a dose of antibiotics and if one has dry mouth or xerostomia.
