Parotitis: The parotid gland (and to a lesser extent, the submandibular gland) can become infected, sometimes in association with a salivary stone. An entity of "recurrent parotitis of childhood" is a relatively common cause of repeated salivary infections in kids. Sometimes it isn't the gland itself, but a lymph node in the gland that is what is infected.
