Why is it that wisdom tooth extractions are more painful than regular ones?

Bone surgery: It is not necessarily true that wisdom tooth extraction is more painful. But it is possible to have more swelling and discomfort after surgery because often wisdom tooth extraction also requires surgical removal of bone.

Wisdon teeth: Wisdom teeth extractions can be more difficult especially when they are impacted. An impacted tooth means it is under the gums and/or the bone. This is complicated when the position of the tooth is horizontal, has long or hooked roots, and located near the nerve. Anytime you involve the bone, swelling and bruising are normal post-operative problems.
