Not much: The average person has twelve pair (24 total), but it is not rare to more or less, and in most cases it make no difference whatsoever. In rare cases, a rib in the rib can compress a nerve, leading to arm symptoms. At the other end (bottom of rib cage), muscles may attach to the extra rib, but neither enhance or diminish function; they are silent.
