Colonoscopy? Yes: I am assuming you are asking about colonoscopy. The answer is yes you should have it. They do not put you to sleep for a colonoscopy. You are given some sedating medicines but are still awake. I know some who have undergone colonoscopy without medications. I would not recommend that.

Not yet: With a family history of nonhereditary non-polyposis colon cancer which is what i suspect your dad had at 61, screening should begin in your 40's.

Yes possible: Techniques advanced so much it should not a problem, speak to the anesthesiologist before will help you to take away your fear. And get the procedure done with soon. This should not be excuse for any delay.

Do colonoscopy/seeDr: You should get a colonoscopy starting at age 50 according to the american cancer society "guidelines for the early detection of cancer" recommendation(s). For you, you should get it now due to your family history. If you have a problem with anesthesia, let your doctor know and incorporate this in your/your doctor's preparation for colonoscopy. Best of luck.

See belwo: First you need a colonoscopy with a GI doctor to see if you have the disease. This procedure can be done under light sedation and should be well tolerated. If you have to go to surgery you should discuss your concerns with an anesthesiologist.

Colonoscopy: You do not need colon surgery at this time. Based on your family history you should definitely get a screening colonoscopy.
