Yes: Pharyngitis can be caused by other bacteria and viruses. Overall, it may make you feel bad, but they all go away within a few days by themselves (with a normal immune system), with or without treatment. The reason we treat strep is that is can cause other problems down the road, like rheumatic heart disease. Danger would be severe swelling of tonsils, which is fairly rare. See a doctor.
