Not always: Antibiotics are not always necessary during root canal treatment. I try to avoid them whenever possible as they pose an allergy risk to patients and taking them unneccesarily can lead to resistance. If they are needed, best to let the dentist decide the one that will work best.

Root canal antibioti: Antibiotics aren't always given, but often may be if the area around the tooth and the tooth are badly infected especially if the pain caused by it makes it difficult or impossible to do a root canal. Sometimes the nerve is so infected, that the local pain-killing injections have little or no effect on reducing the pain, which would make the procedure very painful.

Not always: Antibiotics are recommended durinr root canal treatment only if it is infected or got inflamed after should the doctor decide to put you under antibiotics the drug of choice in that case would be clyndamycine or similar antibiotic that treats infections of that kind(caused by anaerobic bacteria).
