Contact Peds ASAP: Eye infections in babies can be very serious, and swelling in the face could indicate cellulitis (infection spreading into the face). Please contact your pediatrician immediately regarding this, as antibiotics may be immediately necessary. Also take note that this can be highly contagious, even to adults.

Possible Infection: Discharge, crusting, and stickiness around the eyes, especially of a young child should be addressed by either an ophthalmologist or pediatrician. Although a common infection (pink eye or other) may be the cause, other possibilities such as a blocked nasolacrimal duct (tear duct) may also be involved.
